Lilies of the valley and forget-me-nots, tulips and greater celandine. Branches of chestnut and linden trees laden with blossoms. Young ferns, yellow morel mushrooms, and merrily babbling forest streams. Fresh, sunny mornings and crisp evenings sprinkled with light rain. Joy, lightness, warmth, and light – the quintessence of May, which is represented by Light Spring in the 12 Tones series. The previous post was dedicated to True Spring, and today we’ll discuss what a colorful capsule wardrobe for Light Spring might look like.
The most important feature of the Light Spring palette is, as the name suggests, the lightness of its colors, relative to other Seasons. The LSpr palette includes darker colors such as navy blues, greens, browns, and grays, but compared to other color types, they are quite light and don’t reach as far in value as, for example, the colors belonging to the Winters. Hence, the lack of dramatic light-dark contrasts within this palette. Color intensity isn’t as strong as in Bright and True Springs, but if we tried to translate the colors into musical notes, we would likely obtain a tune full of high, pure tones. Light Spring is neither a truly warm nor a truly cool Season – its undertone is described as neutral, but leaning towards the warmer side of the spectrum. This gives us a perception of this palette as illuminated by sunlight, not immersed in cool shadow.
A colorful capsule closet for Light Spring is a combination of the joyful energy of Spring and the gentle charm of Summer. This color type favors medium to low contrast, which can be achieved by mixing the lightest colors with the darkest ones in their palette, or light with light and dark with dark. With the influence of Summer, strong color contrast is slowly being replaced by analogous combinations. Neutral colors are also used more often in creating outfits. Neutral bases can be created with yellowish beiges, creamy and marzipan whites (blouse no. 9), yellow-green grays à la sunflower seed (pants no. 3), and coconut shell browns. Besides neutrals, the Light Spring palette is full of colors reminiscent of French macarons and summer desserts – pistachio ice cream, vanilla milkshake, peach sorbet. Jewelry in light yellow gold and rose gold works best for this type. Cream pearls, aquamarines, clear corals and turquoises, as well as colorful beads that harmonize with your color fan, are fantastic.
Today’s capsule includes, as usual, 16 pieces, but this time I suggest two dresses and three “bottoms”—two pairs of trousers and one skirt. I’ve reduced the number of “tops” to five, with one of them functioning as a cardigan. This colorful capsule closet for Light Spring will allow you to easily create unique outfits for at least three weeks, and with skillful juggling of accessories, for even a month. In this capsule, the polka-dot skirt is on the border of Light Spring and Light Summer, but it successfully integrates into the whole capsule. The orange dress exudes the warmth of True Spring, but the layer of lace is offset by a cooler white from the underneath, creating an overall color scheme acceptable for Light Spring. Please remember that colors in photos usually differ from colors of the same items in reality, so if you order any of the above products, compare them at home in natural light with your palette and be prepared for a possible return.
When it comes to the capsule style, I drew inspiration from the Yin Gamine (YinG) image Archetype, which perfectly complements the youthful energy of Light Spring palette. The Coquette wears clothes that are close-fitting and have a defined waist. Short, flared skirts and slim-leg trousers work best on her. Tops with puff sleeves, lace, rounded collars, and crystal-embroidered necklines look absolutely appropriate on this petite figure. No one else can pull off the sweetness of girly ruffled dresses and Twiggy-style A-line minis like the Coquette. Delicate, rounded-toe shoes and a small heart-shaped handbag or a clutch embellished with 3D flowers complete the looks and rejuvenate more conservative outfits.
What do you think of the colorful capsule wardrobe for Light Spring? What Archetype would you like to see featured in the Light Summer capsule, which is planned for next post of this series?
